Tractors, agricultural machines and earthworks machines are nowadays often equipped with an EGR system. This consists of an EGR valve and an EGR cooler.

The principle of EGR is that a quantity of the exhaust gases from the engine is returned to the combustion chamber (s) via the intake manifold. The exhaust gas is mixed with the incoming air and therefore the oxygen content of the combustion mixture will drop. Thus more inert gas is introduced into the combustion chamber.

At diesel engines is a side effect of the EGR system that more soot is emitted. Less NOx leads to more soot and vice versa. An optimum must be found for each engine by adjusting it. When using a soot filter, the greater emissions of soot due to the use of EGR are no longer as important, since the soot is nevertheless captured. This results in low NOx emissions and there is no need to invest in NOx treatment.

The big disadvantage is that the intake system will eventually become heavily polluted with soot. As a result, you have less power and the machine can start to smoke or run irregularly.

Chip Performance can close the EGR with software for almost all engines or even remove it with software if your valve is broken. This means that the EGR valve no longer opens both at part load and full load. The advantage of this is that the engine is no longer contaminated internally, such as intake manifolds that are carbonized or EGR valves that get stuck or broken.

The adjustment concerns a full EGR delete including suppression of error codes.
